The 13th National Collegiate Metallographic Skills Competition was recently held at Huanggang Normal University. Organized by the Teaching Steering Committee for Materials Programs of the Ministry of Education and hosted by Huanggang Normal University, the event also featured the 2nd National Collegiate Metallographic Conference. The competition saw 1,898 participants from 531 universities, including Tsinghua University, vying for top honors.

This year's event spanned five days and included two main tracks: the Metallographic Skills Competition and the Metallographic Conference. A total of 1,460 contestants from 531 universities participated in the skills competition, while 438 contestants from 178 universities took part in the conference. To ensure fairness and transparency, the event included a review committee and a supervision committee to oversee sample evaluation and process monitoring.

Initiated by Tsinghua University and co-founded with the University of Science and Technology Beijing, Central South University, and other prominent institutions, the National Collegiate Metallographic Skills Competition holds a distinguished position among the 84 competitions listed in the National Ranking of Collegiate Discipline Competitions. As the preeminent national student discipline competition in the materials field, it is renowned for its high standards, rigorous regulation, extensive scale, and profound influence. The competition is designed to enhance pedagogical approaches, drive curriculum reform, and foster academic learning through competitive engagement. Additionally, it promotes inter-university collaboration and continuously strives to elevate the quality of talent cultivation in materials programs.
Notably, Zhang Yongkang, a student from the School of Mechanical and Intelligent Manufacturing at Huanggang Normal University, won the individual first prize, while Feng Changle and Liang Hao secured individual third prizes. Huanggang Normal University also received the Excellent Organization Award.
